Bring STEM to Everyone

Our
Story

We are a group of high school students from various schools across Auckland with extensive experience and notable achievements in robotics and STEM-related fields, both nationally and internationally. United by our shared passion for robotics and community service, we founded the “Koru STEM Club” in July 2024.

STEM has made remarkable progress in New Zealand over the past decade, yet there remains tremendous potential for further growth. Our club is dedicated to unlocking this potential, leveraging the power of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to inspire and engage our local community. We aim to create opportunities for individuals of all ages to explore and learn through hands-on projects, interactive technology demonstrations, and community-driven events.

By closing the knowledge gap in STEM and cultivating a passion for learning, our club strives to ignite curiosity, spark new interests, inspire innovation, and build resilience in the community - especially among those who often lack access to such resources.

Join us! Together, we can explore, innovate, and inspire!

Māori is the native language of New Zealand. The term "koru" refers to a Māori word meaning "loop" or "coil." It represents the spiral shape of the unfurling frond of a silver fern and is widely used in Māori art and culture.

Reasons for Choosing the Name "Koru”?

  • Symbol of Growth: The koru symbolises new beginnings and growth, which aligns with the club’s focus on learning and developing new skills in STEM.

  • Cultural Significance: The koru holds significant meaning in Māori culture, representing harmony and the unfolding of potential. This reflects the club’s aim to foster collaboration and creative exploration.

  • Connection to Innovation: The spiral shape of the koru represents the cyclical nature of learning and innovation, mirroring the continuous improvement and problem-solving inherent in STEM.

  • Positive Energy: The koru conveys a sense of renewal and positive energy, embodying the club’s mission to create an inspiring and supportive environment for the entire community.
